THE MANAGEMENT TEAM
Al Murabit was born from a partnership between Mazin Wajih, the CEO of the Harlow Group, Nouri Al Badran, a long serving Iraqi Diplomat and a former Minister of Interior, and three British directors with extensive experience in the security industry.
Ian Anderson: Managing Director and Partner
After graduating from Lancaster University with a degree in International Politics, Ian attended the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and was commissioned into the British Army in 1988. As well as serving in a variety of operational theatres, Ian led the successful British 2000 Everest North Ridge Expedition.
He joined the private security sector in 2004. Since then Ian has lived in the Middle East working on behalf of clients in Iran, Yemen, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia and Iraq.
In 2007 he was appointed Managing Director of an International security company trading in Iraq that employed over 2,200 staff. He successfully held that post until early 2011. His experience of market entry planning, crisis management, and practical Arabic affairs in hostile environments is exceptional. He has successfully delivered complex, large scale security solutions across Iraq on behalf of a wide portfolio of clients working in both the private and public sector.
Philip Jones: COO and Partner
Philip joined the British Military in 1989 as a 16 year old Royal Marine. He served in a variety of operational theatres - including extensive training and operational support roles to indigenous tribal forces throughout the Middle East and South Asia.
After 16 years service Philip moved into the commercial sector where he ran the security for an international Oil & Gas Service Company in Yemen and as the second in command in Saudi Arabia. In 2007 he was appointed Operations Director for an established risk management company in Iraq with over 2200 employees. Most recently he has assisted market entry into Iraq for an Australian Oil Field Services company. Philip is responsible for the operational delivery of Al Murabit contracts throughout Iraq, the establishment and ongoing review of our Standard Operating Procedures and the training of all expatriate and Iraqi staff to the highest operational standards.
Tom Barker: Commercial Director and Partner
Having completed his education at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, Tom joined the Royal Gurkha Rifles on tour in Sierra Leone. He went on to conduct operational tours in Bosnia, Kosovo and Afghanistan as a Platoon Commander, Aide de Camp to a three Star General and as the Officer Commanding the Gurkha's Sniper and Reconnaissance Platoons. Tom also served on attachment with the 3rd Battalion the Parachute Regiment before leaving the army in 2005 to join the security industry in Iraq.
Working for an established risk management company, Tom served as the Director of Security for a $450 million security contract to the US Army Corps of Engineers, through the heaviest period of inter factional fighting in Iraq's recent history. In 2007 Tom took on a Washington DC based role in business development responsible for supporting US clients seeking market entry in the Middle East and Africa. He returned to Iraq in 2009 and joined Al Murabit in 2010.
Mazin Wajih: CEO the Harlow Group

Nouri Al Badran: Chairman and Partner
Nouri was born in Southern Iraq in the 1940's. Following an early career as a journalist he entered the Iraq Diplomatic Service and represented his country in London, Moscow and finally as the Iraqi Ambassador to Saudi Arabia. In 2003 Nouri returned to Baghdad to assist in the reconstruction of Iraq and served as the Minister of Interior, responsible for one of the largest and most influential departments in the Iraqi cabinet for two years.
Nouri oversees all aspects of Al Murabit's delivery to ensure that the company operates within both the letter and spirit of Iraqi law, that we manage an "Iraqi first" recruitment policy and ensures that both Al Murabit and our clients receive the full weight of his political experience and support.
